All the words have been drained from this pencil, I long to write but as I stare at the screen… nothing. No freedom from the chains that bind my mind. Nothing. No release of tension in a trist of words tied to longing pour from my soul. It happens this way it seems. Things tangle themselves around the words and hold them firm to the walls of my mind. They don’t swirl. They don’t dance. Oh I hate when the words don’t dance. Don’t… or won’t… or can’t. It frustrates me. Crushes me. Sucks the air from me. Please word fairy, bring back the magic. Dust me with the sweet release of prose..allow me to be freed. Here I sit, wishing, waiting, you’d come back to me!
Uninspired State of Mind

I like the sentence “chains that bind my mind”…nice prose about writer’s block? (I suppose)
Might I make a suggestion…? Not to sound too smart alecky, but it might help to use the keyboard instead of a pencil when gazing into the abyss of the computer. Just thought I’d throw that out there.
It is frustrating to feel the need to write and yet the words are ever elusive. Just start typing random phrases and words and let the word fairy whack you with her dictionary and thesaurus a few times. That is, if you don’t mind sounding like a babbling weirdo for a bit.
lol, thank you, I actually needed sarcasm this afternoon!! I was overdue a good laugh! I was wondering why the lead kept tearing up my computer screen. *facepalm*
ummm… cough cough… no way!
Sometimes the mind needs a little quiet time ….
I’ve had a few doses of that and its not too much fun. I always love your Blog so I hope the word department starts issuing fresh inspiration soon
That’s why I’m reading and not working on my “book.”! Try again tomorrow. Some days just aren’t meant for writing…
Did you ever play sports competitively, or perhaps play music? If so, you’ll know that you hit slumps in the road to progress. Sometimes the solution is do the little exercises and drills that warm you up and fire up the muscle memory to get back into form. Other times, it is best to just walk away from it for a while and deprive yourself of the activity altogether. The former is an adjustment needed to correct small problems of technical skill. The latter is an adjustment to reignite a passion and longing through deprivation.
Unless you have to write because it puts bread on the table each night, consider taking a small break from time to time and let the writing call you to the screen instead of sitting at a screen and calling the writing to come forth. Write when you feel you must. Writing is a lot like going to the bathroom – you can’t really force yourself to pee if the urge isn’t there. While you can force yourself a bit, the result is often disappointing if you do…
